The teacher get the students engaged. Hands on learning at it's best! There is not a structured sports program at this school. Focus is science, technology and global studies. Physical education hits on a variety of subjects such as nutrition, exercise, teamwork, sportsmanship, body movement and balance, fundamental of sports and team games, to name a few. NASA has deemed this school as a NASA explored school. Having live conversations and presentations with NASA scientists, astronauts and engineers is quite common in the schools science lab. This school has achieved some of the best scores on CMT tests and is nationally recognized as a magnet school of excellence by the Magnet School of America for a second time now, in 2011! Our science specialist, Mrs. Donna Rand, accepted Teacher of the Year and also Science Teacher of the Year and has extensive connections to make science a one of a kind experience for the children that attend EHGEMS. The new school building will be complete for 2012 Sept. The old school they now occupy is run down and too small. Plans for the new school can be viewed on Glastonbury Town Hall's website. Parent involvement is a necessity at EHGEMS as with any school. Many family events and activities rely on parent involvement, and it is quite rewarding! There are many family events throughout the year, bringing parents, grandparents, Aunts, uncles and alumni back for more! I have sent all three of my children to this elementary school, and I am so glad that I did. It is a small, diverse, caring community, where the Principal knows each child's name, a place where you can feel that you belong, and that is a nice feeling.
