School Reviews

The kids at Western are rude, unwelcoming, and cliquey for the most part. The math department is terrible, and the biology and physics classes are taught poorly. Most foreign language teachers don't do anything. The theater program is a joke; Albemarle is a far better choice for arts. However, the English and history teachers generally know what they are doing. WAHS is a great school for sports. Also, the guidance department is on top of things and very helpful with college preparation.

Overall, WAHS is a great school. Like another reviewer said, most of the issues are in the science, math, and foreign language departments. The physics department has a lot of technology and receives several grants...but doesn't spend the money wisely and leaves students struggling with the course content. The history department is on top of their game (the AP courses are challenging and interesting), english dept. is wonderful too. Sports programs are top notch, the leadership program is impressive, and the drama department puts on spectacular productions throughout the year.
